The first time I saw Grizfolk was a couple years ago in Park City, UT - they opened for Jimmy Eat World. Jimmy Eat World doesn't always have the best openers, so I was pleasantly surprised when they put on such a great set. I was excited to see that they were coming back into town to open for Flor and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. All three bands have a somewhat similar sound and fanbase -- tours like these are great for a number of reasons. It’s a great way for fans to find new music to listen to and bands to grow their fanbase and I love to be able to go to a show and enjoy every single band.
The five-piece indie rock band set the mood for the night by opening with the first track off Waking Up Giants, "Into the Barrens". This is a good song to open with because it starts with a pretty epic build that exerts energy and excitement throughout the room. Grizfolk did a great job at mixing up the songs during their set to create a mix of upbeat songs and ballets. They even threw us a couple songs off their upcoming album including "Black Magic", "Spoonful", and "Hurricane". The band closed with their pop sing-a-long "Hymnals", which was a ton of fun and the perfect way to wrap up their performance.
There are still plenty of tour dates left, so if you're planning on going to the Upside Down Flowers tour, make sure you get there early so that you don't miss Grizfolk's set!
